International Translation Day: Celebrating Language Access

By September 30, 2026No Comments

Every September 30, International Translation Day recognizes and celebrates the language professionals who make communication possible across borders, cultures, and communities. The date honors St. Jerome, the patron saint of translators, and was formally recognized by the United Nations in 2017 to highlight the role of translation in fostering dialogue, cooperation, understanding, development, and peace.

St. Jerome was the first to take on translation of the Bible, the most translated book in history, translating the New Testament from Greek manuscripts into Latin and part of the Hebrew Old Testament into Greek.

This year’s theme, “Linguistic Diversity and Language Rights,” reminds us that language access is about more than words. At Alboum, we see this power every day. Translation and interpretation ensure people can fully participate in civic life, access essential services, understand critical information, and engage with institutions in a language they understand. This work turns the promise of inclusion into practical access.

A Thank You to Alboum’s Translators & Interpreters

On this International Translation Day, Alboum extends sincere gratitude to our linguists for your hard work, dedication, and professionalism. You bring your skills, work ethic, and heart to every project. We appreciate your commitment to our clients and the communities they serve. THANK YOU.

If you’re reading this and haven’t had the opportunity to work with members of our team just yet, they are exceptional. Their work requires more than language proficiency – it requires judgment, cultural awareness, subject-matter knowledge, attention to detail, and a focus on quality. We are proud of their commitment to best practices and ethical conduct.

Recognizing Language Access & Community Engagement Professionals

Importantly, we want to give International Translation Day recognition to the many language access professionals – educators, healthcare teams, program managers, advocates, and community partners – who work every day to increase engagement with multilingual communities. Your efforts truly make a difference in building trust and driving greater impact for families and individuals in schools, healthcare centers, social service agencies, and more.

We also extend sincere gratitude to organizations like the Association of Language Companies, American Translators Association, Harris County Department of Education and American Association of Interpreters and Translators in Education (AAITE). These organizations are steadfast in their work to strengthen the language access industry through advocacy, professional development, and community building.

International Translation Day is a reminder that language access is essential. To Alboum’s linguists and to all who advance multilingual communication: thank you for helping people be heard, understood, supported, and included.
